On March 4, 2000

I married the love of my life. Every time I say I can't possibly love him anymore, the next day comes around and I am amazed at my new capacity to adore him.

Happy Anniversary, Love.

And for your reading pleasure, here is our wedding invitation, composed by my husband The Big D:

The leaf

Like a leaf,
Rustling across the sand—
How did I get to the beach—
drifting in the wind
too close to the water,
love carries us on a strange voyage.

With waves crashing,
sweeping the leaf out into the ocean—
I wish I were back at the beach—
surfing on the crests
and drowning in the troughs,
love consumes us in the tides.

Land nearing,
an unknown body approaching—
Is it safe to come out of the water—
looming in the foreground
as a mystery to be solved,
love thrills us with the adventure.

Another leaf,
lying on the shore—
Has she made the journey, too—
standing as a companion
on the lonely, secluded island,
love binds us together.

Being together,
basking in the sun—
I’m glad I came out of the water—
enjoying the company,
feeling the embrace,
love fills us with happiness.
